About Skala Pitching Performance

About Your Lincoln, Nebraska Pitching Coach

Hi! My name is Jake Skala. I grew up in Kearney, NE, and developed a passion for baseball at an early age, which was further ignited when I had the opportunity to play in the Little League World Series in 2012 as part of the Midwest team. Although I was a 4-sport athlete in high school, my focus eventually narrowed to baseball.

After graduating from Kearney High School, I attended Barton Community College, where I was a starting pitcher for two years. In 2019, I helped the team reach the regional tournament. Eventually, I transferred to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln to complete my education.

My coaching journey began in 2015 when I started coaching for Kearney Little League. When I moved to Lincoln, I continued coaching for the Nebraska Prospects during the fall season. I was also a pitching coach at Lincoln East in 2023, where I shared my knowledge and passion for the sport as we watched them win State in the Spring and Summer.

I take pride in being a resource for athletes and helping them develop their skills and understanding of the game.

Testimonials

Jake has an approach that is way more than pitching. It's strength building as well as pitching. He was very encouraging and helped build confidence. Never once said anything negative or degrading. We are just starting into this venture and my son is super excited for his next lesson.

Rustin, 9 year old son

My son's shoulder and arm used to get very sore while pitching in practice or games. Since he started working with Jake, his pre and post-arm throwing program has helped eliminate the constant strain on his arm and increased Ian's endurance during practice and games.

My favorite part is just having fun during the lesson while still being serious and a good source of growth. Jake gives instant feedback that is not only reliable but also easy enough to understand.

Jake communicates extremely well with kids and parents. All of his instruction is clear, positive, and productive. If you want to improve, have a positive experience, and learn from the best, work with Jake!

We had one lesson with Jake and I feel he caught some technique issues and got them stopped before they became bad habits. When my son was shown a proper pitching motion, it changed his accuracy and speed in no time. Jake made it very easy for my 9 year old to understand what he was wanting and why he needed to do it a certain way.

I am very pleased with how Jake communicates and relates to Mason. He has improved his accuracy and speed while smoothing out his motion and form. Jake is great and knows how to work well with his athletes.
